| Two full side long pieces explore JOMF’s
unique brand of improvisation taking you the listener on a journey around
the houses of free jazz, scuzz rock, minimalism, leftfield electronica
and folk music to name but a few sites along the way. Subtle percussion,
minimal guitars and violin meet the swirl of electronics and turntable
manipulation while the saxophone on side two’s ‘Love Horn’ brings the whole
sound back around to that free jazz feel. |

LP
Sold Out
|
| I don’t think I’m really sticking my neck out here
by saying that this is just superb. Running the risk and putting out 500
of the buggers is probably a firm enough statement in itself. This is John’s
debut solo LP. Consisting of seven pieces of sublime, acoustic droning
for both real and ‘make-believe’ instruments. A multi-instrumentalist,
John utilises a number of diverse instruments ranging from bowed lids to
mouthpiece to piano internals along with violins, prepared guitar, cymbals,
etc.
John has had a busy time since his last release,
the extremely limited 7-tape box-set, in 1996. He has collaborated with
some great people such as Ashtray Navigations, Children at Play, Newcastle-based
Culver, improvised string duets with Neil Campbell and, most notably, playing
on the last two Hood LPs (adding violin, clarinet and piano).
Other projects have included working with obscurest
Ross Parfit on scoring a soundtrack (solely for bowed cymbal, thumb piano
and electronics) for a play in Newcastle. Also watch out for John’s 7"
release on BWCD/Giardia records.
An edition of 500 the first 300 LP sleeves sport
Buddhist prayer papers, picked up by John whilst in Thailand. |

| In conjunction with Fourth Dimension records and
Opprobrium magazine. A document of four of New Zealand’s most innovative
underground artists. It’s almost unbelievable that this did finally happened
after two years of clogging up Fisheye’s arteries. Due out just before
Corpus Hermeticum’s "Le Jazz Non" compilation to spotlight some of the
countries leading talent. Things just didn’t happen, and the project was
heavily delayed it has only now just surfaced. On here you’ll find a track
each from RST, Omit, Surface of the Earth and Sandoz Lab Technicians. All
of whom have released at least one major piece of work since this projects
inception. Sleeve photo by Clinton Williams. Unfortunately most of the
copies that I had have gone overseas or to Cargo. There are currently 5
left in stock. |

showed up two double packs. Although a box, of some kind, was part
of the final product. A collection of tracks, that I understand are exclusive,
from bands/artists that I've dealt with over the years. Cover art that
is complementary for either set of 7"s has been done by Graham Lambkin.
This Final Edition is now available
as all four 7"s in a hard card sleeve. Limited to 75 copies.

| Children at Play - Unboxed Pt. 1. |
7" Sold Out.
|
| The first in the Unboxed series from
these guitar manglers and sound crumblers. "Stupidity is Not a physical
Thing.", curiously features a broken e dragged across the pickups in quite
a frenzied fashion, burying all evidence of the supposed sample backing
it. Said sample makes a reprise in the guise of "The Cast of Neighbours
Discuss the Existence of God". Children at Play with Denkmal cover side
two with the Britpop tinged "Now My Eyebrows have Finally Met I Shall Become
Oasis", which was recorded during the Clerical Brothers remixing of the
only true noise record 'Old Dog'/'No Tricks' by Denkmal. A tape of which
appeared on Graphic Death and disappeared with the label. Static, loops
and crackles with the typical ham fisted high pitched guitar meets jewel
box twiddling your beginning to expect from the retards of guitar theatrics.
Not very pleasant for sure. Rather dapper, handmade collage of household
junk makes up the cover.
The Children at Play "Unboxed"
project will consist of a 7", 8", 10" and 12" lathe cut record is still
underway. The b-sides are collaborations with and remixes by other artists.
There's a nice Delphium remix for the 8" which is really awaiting some
selections and editing from the 20+ C90s of 'current' CAP material floating
around. Future parts of this project shall include collaborations with
Culver and Emil Hagstrom, others that may appear include the Rosa Lee State,
Wooden Cunt and Tea Culture. We'll see what happens when the tapes return.
With everything else out of the way the completion of this project is next
on the agenda. |

| Dust/Omit - Fore-casts. |
7" Sold Out
|
| A collaboration between New Zealand's
A Handful of Dust and Omit. Omit's unorthodox methods of composition
and layering of sound play Eno to Dust's Manzarek. Hear Kazoo, synth,
guitar, a baby's wail and various other 'found' sounds such as a treated
wardrobe stretched looped and bent into each other. Confused sculptures
of a semi-ambient, hypnotically rhythmic nature. Contrary to popular
belief this one plays at 45 rpm although there's been plenty of feedback
as to it playing at 33 rpm. Just one more good reason to keep vinyl
alive. Still hanging in there, 2 copies left, if you need a copy nows
the time to act! |
