Wylam is a small village of approximately 2,500 inhabitants located in the North of England and lying either side of the river Tyne. It is probably best known as the birth place of the world famous railway engineer, George Stephenson. Wylam has other great railway pioneers associated with it too - pictured left is William Hedley's locomotive, Puffing Billy, on the village entrance plaque [left].
Wylam lies approximately fifteen miles by road west from the centre of Newcastle Upon Tyne. It is easily reached by road or public transport (see 'How to get to Wylam' below.)
