2008: SUFFOLK AND NORFOLK

Following gatherings at Great Malvern, Chester, York, Sheffield and Lichfield, AGC visited Suffolk and Norfolk.

From 1st to 4th August, a group of Companions enjoyed a trip to the Suffolk & Norfolk of M. R. James. This started in style with a ëbirthdayí dinner for James on the Friday night, and was followed by visits to Norwich Cathedral and Castle Museum on the Saturday. On Sunday there was a trip to Aldeburgh, where we followed in the footsteps of the characters from A WARNING TO THE CURIOUS and, despite a tremendous thunderstorm, had a good time. On Monday 4th August, there was a visit to St. Maryís church, Redenhall, where we viewed the Gawdy Chapel, mentioned by James in SUFFOLK AND NORFOLK, and from which he borrowed the name for THE MEZZOTINT. Over the weekend, there was plenty of eating, drinking and good companionship, along with a guided walk through "Horrid Norwich", a quiz and the telling of a couple of ghost stories. We hope to hold next yearís AGM at Boston, Lincolnshire
