Web
Cams are cameras that are placed in strategic and sometimes not so strategic,
places all around the world, both indoors and outdoors, and whose pictures
are made available on the Web. The pictures these cameras take range widely
from beautiful scenic skylines to someone's office. You can even find Web
cams of hamsters, feet and bathrooms. Every Web cam is different,
so you never know what you might see. Most of the above links
are to live Web cams. (approx. 1 minute delay from real-time) When you
visit a Web cam site, in most cases, a picture is taken, processed, and
sent to your screen. Web cams offer a fascinating way to travel around
the world in seconds and see many different views in a very short time.
You could see who's sitting on a park bench in Hollywood, a city
street in Hong Kong, and a science station in the Antarctic Circle
all in about 5 minutes. Web cams can be very interesting and a lot
of fun to see, so prepare to look out the virtual window to the world.
Remember, the sky's the limit, at least it is until there is a Web Cam
on the shuttle or on Mir.
*Be
warned however some cameras are for adults only but are not associated
with The Toombes Room*
