For the size of this pub there was very little space and you had a bit of a hike to the urinals but for all that it was a comfortable place and in the front bar on a winter's day was very relaxing to sit by the fire and retreat into a cosy world of friends and family and conversation: leaving the uncertainties of the modern world behind, until the taxi at half-past two. In February 1975 I had a drink in here with my step-father and mother before leaving for the Army Recruit Selection Centre at Sutton Coldfield. My last drink as a Stamford resident but every drink I'll ever have in Stamford will be as a Stamfordian.
Today the Albion is now a wine bar, interesting, animated but not the same...
