Friendly Match vs Wandsworth Gods, 31st July 2005, London Fields
Wandsworth Gods 134 all out, LFCC 102 all out
again, by our roving reporter and Captain, Jason Lord
It was a low-scoring affair on Sunday as everyone got a chance to bat. Only 52 overs were bowled of a possible 70, but a strong LFCC bowling and fielding performance was sadly not matched by the chase.
First the Gods innings - which included three LFCC members (myself, Peter Rank and Andy Wyatt). Rick Derons took 4 for 14 off six overs and caught me at first slip (off a brilliant Matt Cowie delivery). Richard Johnson, kindly taking on the Captaincy duties for the day, took two wickets himself and there was one each for Will Isaac and Gordon Fleming. There were also catches for Mark Nuttall, and Richard off his own bowling. There were 4 LBWs (see under 'Cider' below).
Set 135 to win, Matt Cowie set about it with a swashbuckling 28 (inc 6 x 4s), but unfortunately other batsmen were not so successful. With 8 batsmen in single figures (or worse) LFCC needed someone to hang about. Will Isaac and Richard Johnson formed a good partnership, scoring 17 and 19 respectively, but when Will was out LBW (again, see under 'Magners' below) immediately after the drinks break, the game was up. Rick came in at the end to try to force victory but was out caught off ex-LFCC member Shane, playing a typically cavalier shot. Andy Wyatt kept tidily for the Gods.
A fun day out for all - even if the result was not the right one for LFCC. Thanks also to the umpires - Rob Harries and Dave Hickey were very impartial in their decision-making, even though they were very partial to many, many bottles of Magners Cider.
