General Stuff
We won the league comfortably, playing 8, winning 7 and losing just one
match. By Jason's reckoning, that gave us 30 points at the end of the season
(don't ask me how!), comfortably ahead of The Coach & Horses in second
place on 16 points.
In friendly matches, our record was a less impressive played 45, won 20, lost
20, cancelled 5. However, this would be regarded as a reasonable record at
other clubs, and given the high standard of the friendly opposition this year,
we should be quite happy.
The midweek league team had a record of played 14, won 6, lost 8, finishing 12th of 20 teams and reaching the Quarter Finals of the cup along the way.
Club Officers
After two successful, brilliantly-led, popular, happy, drunken years, Jason Lord and Andy Wyatt have stepped down as Captain and Vice Captain of the club. Replacing Jason as skipper of the club is Dave Hickey (known cruelly in some circles as "Moogie", after his Mugabe-like repression of the Fielders during his stint as Tour Judge in Belgium a couple of years ago). Will Issac has replaced Andy as vice skipper.
The Third Selector role is unchanged. Rob Harries, who has done an excellent job for the past two years, was voted to stay on in the same capacity.
Ian Charlton, who has had the dual role of Treasurer and Fixtures Secretary for as long as anyone (even Carl) can remember, has eased his workload by passing on the role of Fixtures Secretary to Richard Johnson. Ian will continue in his role as treasurer for the 2007 season. Best of luck to Richard for the upcoming season!
We mustn't forget two other crucial roles. The Webmaster is yet again Rob Harries, and we mustn't forget Tony Tedore who will continue in his role as Nets Supremo.
Midweek Cricket
After a successful inaugural season in the Victoria Park Midweek league, we will again be entering for the 2007 season. Chris Skinner who did a brilliant job during 2006, venturing into the LFCC unknown will continue in his role as midweek skipper for 2007. If you didn't play last season I would thoroughly recommend giving it a go.
Nets
Winter nets are already underway. Tony Tedore has arranged weekly nets at the Oval. Every Thursday from now until the 21st of December, Tony has managed to get one net from 6-7pm. Spaces are limited; to see if he has any spaces left drop him an email.
Normal pre-season nets start on Sunday 28th Jan and run until 1st April. Tony has secured us two nets for two hours starting at 11am.
Tour
Two very successful tours took place in 2006. For 2007 the tour to Gloucester, in early July will go ahead as usual. The end of season tour is currently being reviewed. The general opinion in the club is that going to Belgium every year is a bit much and becomes a bit of a struggle to attract members to attend.
The committee as a whole are currently looking at two possibilities for the end of season tour 2007. No detail as yet as nothing has been confirmed. Once we have a clearer picture of where we are going etc etc we will let you know.
Membership
In terms of membership, we lost 13 players during 2006 but gained 12. Hello and welcome to all new members - we hope you enjoyed your first season with us. Concern was raised that people are joining the club and not playing enough, so we agreed to monitor the situation closely next season.
Match Fees and Membership Fee
Match fees for waged players will be raised to £4 next season (presumably due to a nationwide shortage of 50 pence pieces). Match fees for the unwaged, students and senior citizens will remain at £1.50.
Membership fees will remain steady (as for the previous few seasons) at £35.
Any Other Business
Match Day Managers
We are going to trial a new innovation next season. For every game the selection
committee will appoint a match manager. The match manager will be responsible
for getting the kit to the pitch, getting the stumps out and putting the boundary
markers out.
Ricksta
Rick is leaving LFCC and England, following
in the footsteps of his ancestors back to Australia (though he did not need
to steal a loaf of bread or "hold a highwayman's horse" to earn
his passage this time). Rick has been a loyal servant to the club, a fine
fast bowler and a good friend, and we'll all be sorry to see him go.
Flying Balls
With the re-opening of the London Fields Lido,
we are aware that members of the public may be in danger if balls are hit
into the swimming pool area. We intend to talk to Hackney Council about what
action to take.
Golf Day
An inaugural Golf Day will be arranged by Rob H when the weather is a bit
warmer. All Fielders will be invited to compete for the Ian Charlton Challenge
Cup.
LFCC Merchandise
The committee will look into LFCC-branded shirts, and possibly caps/hats/umbrellas,
too.
Well that is just about it for 2006. A league win, two successful tours and
the end of an era.
Bring on 2007!
Dave Hickey, Incoming Captain
