Friendly Inter-Club Match, 7th May 2006, London Fields
Killer's "B"s thrashed by "London Fields A"
By our resident editor, Rob Harries
Sunday 7th May saw an intra club game between two arbitrary teams of London Fielders.
On a surprisingly sunny early May afternoon, captains-for-the-day Colin 'Killer' Black and Nick 'Pitbull' Isaac chose their respective teams from the 22 London Fielders who turned up to Pub On The Park. Having won the toss, Killer continued a fine London Fields tradition of bowling first, but, like Rahul Dravid in Mumbai, immediately regretted his decision.
Drew and Davin opened the batting for Nick's team, and with Drew slightly anxious to catch the crucial Spurs match in the pub, it was no surprise to see him out for a quickfire six runs. Unfortunately for the Killers, that only brought Will Isaac to the crease. Despite complaining of a "broken" foot (metatarsal injuries are all the rage in England at the moment), he managed to scamper quickly between the wickets before retiring unbeaten on 66.
Davin played a strong supporting role to reach 40 before he was out, and captain Nick also made a useful contribution to his team's total, also scoring 40 runs.
Pick of the bowling for the Killers was Matt Cowie, whose 3 overs went for a miserly 8 runs. Matt was strongly supported by Vince and Rob, who both went from 16 from their 3 overs, Rob picking up the prized wicket of Charlie Charlton in the process.
However, the bowling side could not stop the opposition from rattling up around 178 from their 30 overs.
In reply, the Killers started poorly, with Vince bowled second ball (well, first ball actually as the first ball was a wide) by one that shot through low on the pitch and seamed viciously into the bargain. Doug (14) and Donny (17) restored a semblance of order to proceedings, but apart from Rick (and a late flourish from The Killer himself), no one else reached double figures.
Drew returned from the pub having seen Spurs' unfortunate afternoon on the TV to take 2 for 13 in his 3 overs, and Dave Hickey (2 for 11 from 4) and Rupert (2 for 10 from 4) were too good for The Killers, who struggled over the three figure mark before collapsing. Full marks also to Paul D for his figures of 3 for 17 which closed off the match.
After a few commiserations to the Spurs fans amongst the team (and the pointing out of a huge *rsenal flag being towed by helicopter across the horizon), the team repaired to the Pub On The Park for some much needed refreshments.
No scorecard this week, sorry.
