VPCCL League Match vs Victoria Park Juniors, 9th May 2006, Victoria Park
Lessons learned against plucky school kids after a committed fielding
performance failed to make up for short comings with the bat
by our midweek correspondent, Chris Skinner
Winning the toss for the 2nd week running, the team set out to amass some big runs in their 16 overs, but after most batsmen played themselves in, they soon got themselves out going for big shots. The only men to make double figures were Nick (14) and Ty (10).
The Fields defended 90 from 12 overs last week, so went out in hope that a victory was still possible. Paul (4.0.22.2) and Steve (4.0.13.0) opening the bowling did a fine job in pinning the opposition back, Jason Lord (3rd keeper in 3 weeks) taking a good catch off Paul's bowling.
Sadly however, we were then confronted by the Viccy Park Jnrs captain who took control, scoring an unbeaten 52.
All six bowlers did a great job keeping the game going until the last over, and more disciplined batting on our part could have brought us a win.
Consolation for us could be found in that we were all old enough to go and get some proper practice, in the pub!
