VPCCL League Match vs Masiha, 26th June 2006, Victoria Park

Our final match in the 'Blue' league, and our fifth straight win, sees us to a 6th place finish
by our midweek correspondent, Chris Skinner

With a plucky Masiha keen to play despite the persistent rain, we shrugged our damp shoulders and obliged, albeit a man down.

Batting first, we umpired terribly, resulting in Will showing us his football skills as he kicked his helmet off the park after a controversial dismissal. Extras (24), Dave (22) and Shaun (32) scored the bulk of runs before a rapid collapse, leaving Tony and Chris to edge the score over 100.

In reply, we kept the bowling reasonably tight, despite some lusty hitting from our young opposition. With the pressure building we kept our nerve and Chris (2/16) and Lester (2/20) took late wickets, helped by an entertainingly camp run out by keeper Shaun. In a fine team performance Dave, Lester and Ty all held tough catches and we won by ten runs.

A good natured match which remained competitive to the end and our thanks to Masiha for convincing us to play!.
