VPCCL League Match vs Norfolk & Chance, 6th July 2006, Victoria Park

London Fields 127/6 lost to Rose & Crown 128/1 by 6 wickets.
by our midweek despondent correspondent, Chris Skinner

Losing the toss, but being given the pleasure of batting first, we set about losing our wickets as quickly as possible. Dave hit a four and a six before going last ball of the 1st over, Rob and Shaun soon followed, Shaun run out without facing a ball (another victim of Ty 'Slow Death' Graham's umpiring). Will batted on with typical class but when he went on 32 we were 4 wickets down after less than 8 overs.

The clean hitting debutant Davin (16) and (the less clean hitting) Chris (25) kept the innings together but when Chris went with 2 overs to go, we'd only just scraped over a hundred. Ty (15) and Rick (9) did manage to finish things off on a high note however with some big shots and at least give us something to bowl at.

Ok, at this point I want to mention that for the first 4-5 games it was almost impossible to hit a boundary; the grass was long, the ground was soft, the sun wasn't strong. Now however, it is a nightmare - the dry, hard, closely mown, bumpy outfield and a strong, low sun makes fielding very difficult. The only other thing I'll add is that Rob took a wicket on debut, the only man to do so. Nothing else warrants mentioning.

Still, at least we had a pub to visit, to discuss Wyatting and good excuses.
