League Match vs Victoria Park Juniors, 7th June 2008, Millfields
London Fields 257 for 5 (36 overs)
VPJ 82 all out
London Fields win by 175 runs
by Dave Hickey
The toss was won by stand in tosser Steve Donelan, who followed the captain's instructions brilliantly by electing to bat first.
Openers Paul Teasdale and Robin Friend put on a vibrant and exciting 108 first wicket partnership. The large stand was brought to an end when Robin, just shy of his fifty, holed out to mid wicket. Next in was Alec McCrindle, with his new lovely, lovely bat.
Alec has been working out recently and it showed, his power play shots cleared the boundary on more than one occasion. One six can still be seen heading up Lea Bridge Road….
Paul Teasdale was next to go after compiling another excellent 50. Jason Lord was next in and he continued on the fast paced batting, although it was free scoring Alec, who eventually finished with 79, who kept the run rate above 7 an over. A little cameo near the end from Arthur Smart saw the Fields finish on an above par 257 for 5.
After a quick break for tea provided by tea boy Robin, the Fields set about the task of defending what seemed a large score. Steve D and Ty Graham opened the bowling. A mixture of tight lines and an excellent catch or two meant the game was effectively over after they had both bowled their overs.
It must be noted that Arthur, fielding at Long Off, took an excellent diving catch off Ty to remove the dangerous looking opener. Some excellent bowling by Ben Sanders, who for a small guy gets far too much bounce, and from league debutant's Brock Martin and Marcus Orr continued the good work.
The game was finished off by Arthur Smart who took his first 5 wicket haul for the club.
Fields finished the game a comfortable 175 runs ahead of VPJ and stay top of the NELCL with 4 games played..
