Classification involves three activities

2. Taxonomy - deciding which group or taxon an organisms should go in.

3. Systematics - arranging the groups in some logical order.

You will be expected two know the main groups of animals and plants within the five kingdoms and some significant characteristics of these groups -

e.g. Kingdom Animalia, Phylum Chordata, Class Mammalia, Order Primates, Genus and species Homo sapiens.

Prokaryota

Protoctista, Chlorophyta, Phaeophyta, Rhodophyta

Plants, Bryophyta Mosses & liverworts, Ferns, Conifers, Angiosperms.

Animals -

Cnidaria

Annelida

Platyhelminthes

Nematodes

Arthropoda - insects, crustacea

Mollusca

Chordates Chondrichthyes, Osteichthyes, Amphibians, Reptiles, Birds, Mammals
