As a fulltime artist I find it far more satisfying to receive a specific commission from real people rather than painting self-inspired pictures for some remote exhibition visitor whom I might never meet. I think there is nothing I enjoy more than the excitement of mutual creativity between people.

For most of my career in painting I have received a wide variety commissions from industrial and commercial companies, authorities and private clients. Up to early 1970, I pursued a first career in architecture where I learned the discipline of my art.

In partnership with my wife, Cally, we have assembled an extensive collection of work which is marketed as reproductions to the retail trade under the title HillCrest Publications. We have four grown up daughters and six grandchildren. We moved from Horning, Norfolk to join the Findhorn Community in 1977 where I learnt adult education skills and how to better communicate with people.

The house we designed and built for ourselves over the last decade at Roseisle has a lovely working studio overlooking a rural landscape stretching away to the Grampian and Highland mountain ranges. To the north is the Moray Firth and a coastline fit for any painter.

I am the type of painter who both enjoys the challenge of a new commission and then, together with a satisfied client, enjoys the celebration of a satisfactorily completed commission.
