Two hundred miles north of London and with good road and rail links to the rest of England, Scotland and Wales, Liverpool is a vibrant city with something for everyone. There are regular ferry sailings from Liverpool to the Isle of Man, Belfast and Dublin. Liverpool Airport has regular flights to other cities in the British Isles as well as to mainland Europe. Liverpool is a multi cultural city with a strong local identity. Over the years much has changed but Liverpool is still an important sea port with ships arriving from around the world. There are many fine buildings in the city including two cathedrals, the Albert Dock, the Pier Head and much more. For many people Liverpool is best known as the birthplace of The Beatles. There is still a strong link with The Beatles and indeed the whole 60's era of pop music. However the tradition of great music continues to day and there are many bands who play live gigs in Liverpool's pubs and clubs. To the younger tradition Liverpool's music is synonymous with one of the city's most famous clubs, namely Cream. Two of Europe's greatest football teams - Everton and Liverpool - play in the city. The city is also home to over 30,000 students who study at its two Universities, Hope College and The Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts.

After spending three years at Northern College Ian was ordained as a Minister of the United Reformed Church and inducted to serve the Sheffield West Group on 27th June 1987 at Loxley Church. In April 1992 Ian moved to The Rock Church Centre where he ministers now. Ian has served the church nationally on both the Youth Committee and the Training Committee and is currently convenor of the Liverpool District Church Life Committee.

The Rock Church Centre is a member church of the United Reformed Church. Formed by the union of the Congregational Church in England and Wales with the Presbyterian Church of England in 1972 the United Reformed Church was joined by the Churches of Christ in 1981 and the Scottish Congregational Church in 2000.  The United Reformed Church has approximately 100,000 members who worship in arouund 1775 local churches.
