Danelaw Village, Yorkshire Museum of Farming
At the beginning of June, DAS was kindly invited for a weekend at the Danelaw Village, situated at the Yorkshire Museum of Farming, near York. As you can see, we had a lot of fun at this excellent site. We consider it well worth a visit!
An example of our accomodation whilst at the site.
This particular dwelling was nicknamed 'The Drunk Tank'. I have no idea why. I mean, members of DAS would never indulge in any outrageous drunken behaviour …
Strictly in the interests of improving Viking-Saxon relations (and believe me, some of our relations could stand a lot of improving!), Asne and Skuli teach Grimwulf a few of the new steps.
This was part of the post- banquet entertainment, for those who could move after the fine feast laid on by our host, Ceolred, including wonderful local cheese, fish and wild boar. The banquet was held in the main hall of the village, with the food being cooked on the firepit outside.
None of us would be trying this trick, although the resident goat seemed to find it no problem.
The village boar has a few endearing habits. As well as being exceptionally cute and friendly, he came in very handy when it came to disposing of the leftovers the next morning. He seemed particularly fond of herrings.
