A nymphomaniac ex-nun, an accountant, a porn star and an amnesiac. What do they all have in common? No, this isn't a riddle or a dirty joke. They're all characters in Hal Hartley's comedy-thriller, where the humor is so dry it's arid.

This eclectic group seem to have no other choice but to meet, because their strangeness pulls them together; they are soulmates in wierdness, if you will. When they cross paths, their lives are altered significantly. (Whether for better or for worse is a little hard to say, because their lives were pretty screwy to begin with.)

Some of the acting is true to the movie's title, particularly Martin Donovan's. This almost works for him, though, since he is playing the amnesiac and therefore needs to seem out-of-it.

Besides, the lovely Isabelle Huppert classes up the film and makes it easy to forget about Donovan's deficiencies. She has one of the drollest roles as the ex-nun who writes pornography, and is the world's first virgin-nympho. - Juliette Collin
