Geri’s kissed bye-bye to £5m

Geri Halliwell has kissed goodbye to at least £5 MILLION by quitting the Spice girls.
And if the other members of the group stay together and keep recording, she could lose £10 million.
A source close to the band said last night: “She must have been REALLY fed up to turn her back on that
pile.”
Geri, 25, announced through a lawyer that she was bowing out as Ginger Spice, blaming “differences”
between her and the remaining four Girls.
Her move confirmed rumours last week about her bust-up with the band - even though their official line
was that she had to pull out of concerts due to illness.
Geri would have earned around £2million from the upcoming U.S. leg of the Spices’ world tour and gigs
in Sheffield and London in September. Mel b, Mel C, Victoria and Emma will push ahead with those
dates as a foursome. Geri would have pocketed £500,000 from merchandise profits linked to the shows.
And she was set to net another £500,000 from a fly-on-the-wall video of the U.S. tour.
She will miss out on a £1million share of a £5million advance from Virgin Records for the Girls’ third
album, due to be recorded towards the end of the year.
Another £1million would have rolled in from sponsorship deals.
The source said: “If the Girls stay together another two years, have another hit album and atteact deals,
she’d lose another £10million.”
Even with such a huge amount going out of the window, Geri is hardly broke. She has made around
£10million in her time as Ginger Spice. She will continue to rake in cash from Spiceworld film and video.
And she will still take her share of royalties from all the group’s hits so far.
Projects
The other Girls were also lying low after completing the European leg of their tour without her.
Geri has hired PR guru Matthew Freud to handle her publicity.
He heads the company which also represents TV and radio mogul Chris Evans, fuelling speculation Geri
and Chris may have discussed joint projects when they met last week.
Mr Freud denied Evans had told Geri to quit the Spices. But he did not rule out future ventures.

GINGER SPICE LEAVES THE SPICE GIRLS
On Sunday 31st May 1998, it was confirmed in London, UK, that Ginger Spice (Geri Halliwell) was
leaving the band immediately. In a statement issued through her PR company Geri said she was leaving
because of differences in the band. She also said that “I’ll be back!”.
Sources close to the band spoke of fights and arguments between Geri and Mel B (Scary Spice). The rest
of the band didn’t like Geri doing interviews with the media on her own. Last week, Geri spoke to
newspapers about her scare with breast cancer when she was 18 years old.
It is also rumoured that Geri had been making plans for a solo career for some time. Apart from singing,
she was also quoted as being interested in doing some television presenting.
The rumours about Ginger Spice leaving the band first came to light last Wednesday. The band were
booked to play on the UK’s National Lottery Show. In fact, only four of the band appeared - minus
Ginger. Mel B said then that Geri had a stomach virus but would soon be back.
The Spice girls then went to Norway for 2 concerts and again appeared as a foursome. Then, after much
media speculation, it was officially confirmed that Ginger Spice was leaving.
The Spice Girls have stated that they plan to continue and that the upcoming US tour will go ahead but
without Ginger. The band also stated that they were “saddened” and “disappointed” that Geri had left the
band,
The most recent rumour is that after the US tour Mel B will leave the band and pursue a solo career.
HOWEVER, THIS HAS NOT BEEN CONFIRMED.
