The Sprint and Junior Event Bike Course - 27kilometres (17 miles)

The bike course remains unchanged from the last few years course.

For those of you that are new to the course it is generally challenging, but a gearing of 42/21 should be satisfactory.  (For those of you who do not know what this means [me included !] speak to your local bike shop or drop us a line).

Starting at approx. 140 metres elevation the route follows an undulating course through the countryside along the A22 and minor roads.  It descends and rises (a number of times !!) down to about 55 metres elevation before returning to the Kings Centre.

The route (subject to last minute changes, road works, cattle, weather etc......):

Turn left into Moat Road when leaving the Kings Centre and turn left again onto the A22 London Road one way system.  This is a busy junction so extra care required.   Keep in left hand lane and follow the sign posts to Eastbourne A22, following all yellow race signs and directions given by the marshals.

Continue along A22 heading south out of East Grinstead until Forest Row (this is a long descent on a busy main road).  At Forest Row village turn left at roundabout (Marshall point) onto B2110.  This is a country road that undulates and rises up at Colemans Hatch, continues through Upper Hartfield and joins B2026 at Hartfield (beware of traffic calming).  On sharp bend leaving Hartfield follow B2026 to Colestock.   The road continues to undulate through the countryside rising toward the fairly steeply to Colestock Crossroads joining the A246 (road from Tunbridge Wells).  Turn left onto the A246 (watch for traffic) and continue along A246 through Holtye and Hammerwood back into East Grinstead, past Hospital (just thought I'd mention that), down hill to (new) roundabout, straight over into Moat Road, up hill and left into Kings Centre.

Please remember at all times:

Follow the highway code and be aware of other roads users
Slow down or stop if asked by the police or Marshall
Wear a BSI, ANSI or Snell approved crash helmet (canoe helmets, Viking War hats etc, not permitted)
You are responsible for negotiating the course (no bus fares provided).
