ABOUT US

The multidisciplinary libraries serve the needs of staff from the Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust, West Kent Social Care and NHS Trust, Kent and Medway Strategic Health Authority, and local Primary Care Trusts. Other groups may join on payment of a subscription; please contact the library for details.

The libraries have a book stock of around 20,000 titles, most of which are available for loan. They currently take around 400 journal titles, and also hold a number of back files. These are not available for loan but some are available as electronic journals.

A number of databases are available, including Medline, Cinahl, PsyInfo, BNI, Amed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library. Medline, Cinahl, BNI, PsycInfo, Embase and Amed can be accessed from your desktop via the Dialog service, which also provides direct links to around 1200 full text journal titles. A further 90 full text titles are also available via the Ovid and Ebsco services. Please contact a Library for details of how to register. Access to the internet is also available. Training is offered to library members; contact your nearest service for details. Non-members may not use these services.

We are linked to the South Thames Regional Library Service. Visit this site for more health links and information about other libraries in South Thames.

You can access details of our bookstock via our regional catalogues. Select 'Librarian' from the opening screen; enter the details of the item you are hoping to trace; look for our library codes in the 'Holding Libraries' field of the full record. KMS for Maidstone, KPM for Pembury Hospital and KTW for the Kent & Sussex Hospital.
