Headingley is not a happy hunting ground for Surrey, who have lost seven out of their last eight one-day fixtures there. They did enjoy success at Leeds earlier this season, but that was the Oval outfit's only championship win at Yorkshire's headquarters in nearly thirty years. So, against that background, it is heartening that the Yorkies are in a bit of turmoil at the moment, particularly in the County Championship. In limited-overs cricket, however, they have been holding their own of late with two wins out of their last three Norwich Union League games and, obviously, a victory in the quarter-finals of the Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy. With the bat Matthew Wood has enjoyed far more success in the one-dayers, hitting hundreds against Derbyshire and Somerset, and, more recently, a match-winning 91 at Northampton in the C&G Trophy. For consistency the Tykes have come to rely on Darren Lehmann (670 limited-overs runs at an average of 60.90) and Craig White, who has made a total of five one-day fifties. But the bowling attack is Yorkshire's strongest weapon in the short form of the game. If wickets have been required Dawson, Lehmann and White have obliged, but if containment has been the order of the day Bresnan, Sidebottom and Silverwood have regularly applied the brakes. As a unit they have been so successful, it will be interesting to see how Matthew Hoggard can be slotted in.
