FIRST INNINGS
"Roger Harman said at the Chairman's Evening that Surrey faced two choices - either to buy success or to build for the long-term by sticking with the current crop of youngsters. But, when asked by a member which policy the club would pursue, Harman said he favoured "a mix of both." Suddenly, a situation that was supposedly black and white became grey."

KEENOSE KOMMENTS
"Reading the tributes to Arthur McIntyre for reaching 90, many of us will recall that he was coach for 18 seasons and only won something in the 13th. A lot of young Surrey cricketers were developed, many of whom made career bests against Surrey. How long would he have survived in the job in today's environment?"

NEWS DIGEST
Alan Butcher wrote: "It's been a good week on the pitch for us, but a strange one behind the scenes at The Oval. I showed the players the letter from Roger Harman - I don't see any reason I should hide anything from them. They are disappointed it went out to members without their knowledge, but it might end up galvanising them."
