Learning Outcome 1
LO1. Describes the facilities
of the Internet
To achieve Learning Outcome One you could
answer each of the following three questions. For each one, you
should write between 60 and 100 words. Your tutor will want to
see them and you should keep your answers as evidence for assessment.
Before you begin you may wish to look quickly at the movies
for Levels Two, Three and Four of the CD-ROM or you may just
want a very quick reminder from the movie for Level One.
If you think you can't answer the questions go back to the
hypertext and revise.
- Explain what is meant by the World Wide Web. How does
it work? What are Web pages? How are pages linked? How would
you search for details about a particular topic?
- What is e-mail? How does it work? What kind of things
can be sent by e-mail?
How would you explain the parts of an e-mail address?
What are the advantages of e-mailing as compared with faxing?
Can you think of disadvantages of using e-mail?
How would you organise messages which you received?
- Explain what an FTP server is and how you could get access
to one. What would you find on an FTP server? Explain in detail
how you would download and open something of interest to you.
