Learning Outcome 3

    3. Use the Internet to transfer files.

To achieve Learning Outcome Three you could answer the following questions and locate and download a file from http://www.shareware.com

You may wish to look over the hypertext and the simulation in Level Four before you begin.

    1. Answer the following questions and keep your answers as evidence for assessment. Your tutor will want to see them.
      1. Explain the difference between freeware, shareware and beta.
      2. List a range of different types of files which you might have to download, explain each one e.g. a program for use on a PC and note the appropriate extension e.g. .exe

    2. Click on the Web address below which will take you to the www.shareware.com. Search the site for a piece of educational software to use on your computer. (Narrow your search to Windows or MAC before you start so that the program will be suitable for your computer.)

Read the descriptions of the available programs and when you find something interesting (and not too large) click on the link. You will then be given a list of sites from where your chosen program is available.

Select the one from which it will be quickest and most effective to download. Click on the link to begin the transfer.

    3. Open the program on your own computer and store it in a new folder which you have created and given an appropriate name.

Open the program - install it if necessary - and try it out.

To demonstrate that you have successfully downloaded the software you must show the program in action.
