Willie RodgerThe Red House, 1972 |
"The Glasgow Fishmarket" print is very detailed and intricate. By comparison "The Red House" is much simpler. Both prints illustrate Willie Rodger's love of buildings. "The Red House" uses five colours but was printed in stages. It illustrates the "jigsaw method" in action. Initially two lino-cuts were made and inked, allowing the creation of the blue of the sky and the ochre of the ground. Then a lino-cut block was created to fit into the space which had been left for the building. This was inked and printed in red.
Following that, ochre was added for the roof.
