The National Council for Aviculture represents the interest of all bird keepers at local, national and European levels. Locally we are in contact with environmental Health Officers and Trading Standards Officers, both of whom have responsibility for matters that can and do affect bird keeping.
We regularly meet with and make representation to the British Government through DEFRA (MAFF, DETR) and the Home Office. These departments have responsibility for all licensing, animal welfare and even pet shops and it is imperative that your voice is heard and your interests represented. We also correspond regularly with various EU Parliament and Commission sources who are often instrumental in forming laws which will affect your hobby.
We now also sit on a Contact Group of "PAW" (Partnership for Action Against Wildlife Crime).
Individual Memberships to the N.C.A. are £7.00
Club and Society Affiliations are £15.00
The NCA also has Life Membership which is £50.00
All Individual Memberships and Affiliations to the N.C.A. are due as from the 1st January each year.
There is a Junior membership which is a FREE membership, provided they re-register each year (January) as other members. Aged from 8 years to 16 years of age. Ends when reaching 17th Birthday. All that is required is the name, address, and date of birth.
The NCA has an Insurance scheme for Societies which covers for Public Liability, Trophies for Fire and Theft, Staging for Fire and Theft, and cover for Birds while at shows.
It now has a special insurance for members for loss of birds.
The N.C.A. has set up a course called 'Introduction to Aviary Management' and was very successful in London and could be introduced at other Skill or Educational Centres throughout the U.K. or any other organization. Contact the Administrator
The NCA is working in conjunction with a company called Smartwater which produce an invisible paint which you can put on your birds and will only show up under ultra-violet light. The bottle of solution is registered to you and if your birds are stolen can prove in court 100% that the birds belong to you. It has been demonstrated at the National by the NCA together with the company. The only way you can obtain the product is by being a Member or Society Affiliated to the NCA. I have a bottle of the solution on trial and the price is approx. £150 for a 50ml bottle which will cover about 100 birds. Are your birds worth £1.50 and worth protecting from thieves ?
If your Society want to know how the NCA operates I do travel around the country giving lectures which incorporates the NCA, General Talk on Birds, and a Slide Show. As far as cost, all that is charged is for fuel (within a reasonable distance).
The NCA IS the voice of aviculture and takes care of all those matters which affect your hobby. We need the support of every aviculturist and society in the UK if we are to protect you.
Has your Club or Society entered the CLUB OF THE YEAR Competition this year, and if not why not. The competition covers all types of societies so there is no excuse for not entering.
