Walk against Ageism
I have just caught up with a rather special Parliamentary record. My old friend Richard Livsey (now Lord Livsey, a LibDem Lord, and former Member of Parliament for Brecon) initiated an Early Day Motion to mark my walk-to-work from Swansea to London in November 2000 – I will tell the story, one of these days, here on www.warrenevans.net – in the meantime, this is the only official record -
254 - Notices of Motion 18th December 2000 – No.9
105 WALK AGAINST AGEISM - 13:12:00
Mr Richard Livsey
Mr Martin Caton
Tom Cox
Dr Brian Iddon
Lynne Jones
Mr Win Griffiths
Mr Jeremy Corbyn – Dr Vincent Cable
That this House congratulates Roger Warren Evans, who walked
from Swansea to London, a distance of 220 miles from his home, in
18 days and arrived on time at his workplace on his 65th birthday on
11th December 2000; praises this feat; and recognises that this walk against
ageism proves that people in their fifties, sixties and beyond are more than capable of contributing to society and work and that they should not be discriminated against in any facet of their lives, whether in the United Kingdom, Europe or the rest of the world.
PS Lord Livsey tells me that eventually 37 MPs signed the Motion.
