WYLAM TODAYWylam today is a picturesque and popular village for both visitors and residents alike with little evidence left of its industrial heritage - except for a few naturally landscaped features and clues in the names of some of its streets. A popular commuter village, it has the potential for a very active social life with numerous active clubs from Amateur Dramatics to the local Cricket Club.
One of Wylam's many other great assets is its rural location. As one of the first villages proper outside the large Tyneside conurbation it is easily accessible but has numerous opportunities for outdoor pursuits, such as walking in picturesque settings.
There are many other things to see too. You can see George Stephenson's cottage, now owned by the National Trust, visit the late Victorian St Oswin's church, points bridge and, when in need of refreshment, Wylam Tea Shop. If you fancy something a little stronger Wylam also has four pubs. Evening meals are also possible at the local Italian restaurant!
