There are many interesting walks around Wylam, ranging from the very easy half mile stroll to see George Stephenson's Cottage, where the famous railway engineer was born, to more strenuous and challenging walks further afield.
The village and George Stephenson's Cottage are situated on a linear country park along the northern banks of the Tyne stretching 2½ miles west to Low Prudhoe and 3½ east to Newburn where there are comprehensive leisure facilities. Footpath, bridle and cycle ways stretch further east into Newcastle. On the southern bank tracks and footpaths form part of the Keelman's Way into Tyneside.
